[Gridsphere-users] Vine Toolkit 1.0 Beta

Dear GridSphere Community,

We are happy to announce a Vine Toolkit 1.0 Beta release for  
GridSphere. You'll find 3 source distributions for the Vine Toolkit at:

each aimed at different middleware platforms. Once again, our  
strongest support is for GT4. Our documentation, though still in need  
of work, is continually evolving:

The reason we are calling this is Beta is:

1. I was putting together an example web application showing how to  
use the Vine API when I found that the fact that GridSphere puts a  
xercesImpl.jar in shared/lib breaks job submission for Vine. Though  
GridSphere sometimes presents quite a challenge, I'm certain we'll  
resolve the issue next week. So, for now, Vine supports job  
submission through its own web application and not from third party  
web applications.

2. We found problems with our GridFTP client for GET, PUT and RENAME  
operations. We're not sure if it's because we recently upgraded our  
test environment to GT 4.2.X, so we'll get back to you soon.

3. Our documents will help those coming from the GridPortlets world  
but are less helpful for new users starting out.

So once we've been able to verify things work within Vine and from  
our simple example web app, we'll post that web app online along with  
more documentation and a follow up release of Vine.
